One of the most common questions I see from people starting with ozone therapy at home is whether they can use an oxygen concentrator instead of dealing with oxygen tanks. The short answer is: yes, for most therapies. But there's a critical detail that most people miss, and if you skip it, your concentrator is basically useless for ozone therapy.

The Short Answer

A good quality oxygen concentrator that produces 93-97% oxygen purity is perfectly fine for almost every ozone therapy you'd do at home. Rectal insufflation, vaginal insufflation, ear insufflation, ozone sauna, ozonated water, ozonated oil, limb bagging, all of these work fine with a concentrator.

The one exception is intravenous ozone therapy (like major autohemotherapy). For IV procedures, you want to use a medical oxygen tank. But if you're doing home ozone therapy, you're almost certainly not doing IV anyway.

The Critical Detail Most People Miss

Here's where most people get it wrong, and it's the reason I'm writing this article.

Most oxygen concentrators output oxygen at a flow rate of 1 to 2 liters per minute. That's great for people who need supplemental oxygen for breathing. But ozone generators typically need much less, somewhere between 1/32 and 1/4 of a liter per minute, depending on the therapy and the generator.

Think about that for a second. Your concentrator is pushing out 1-2 L/min, but your ozone generator wants a trickle of 1/32 to 1/4 L/min. If you connect them directly, you're flooding the generator with way more oxygen than it can handle. The ozone won't be produced at the right concentration, and in some cases the generator might not work properly at all.

The solution is simple: you need a pediatric flow regulator.

A pediatric flow regulator is a small valve that attaches to your concentrator and lets you dial the flow rate down to the exact amount your ozone generator needs. It's cheap, it's easy to find, and it's absolutely essential. Without it, your concentrator setup won't work properly.

What to Look for in a Concentrator

Not all concentrators are created equal. Here's what matters:

Purity: You want 93-97% oxygen purity. Most quality concentrators in this range deliver consistent output. Avoid the very cheap units that don't specify their purity levels.

Flow rate: As long as it can deliver 1-2 L/min consistently, you're fine. You'll be dialing it down with the pediatric flow regulator anyway.

Portability: Here's where I'd pump the brakes. Portable concentrators, the small, battery-powered units designed for travel, are generally too weak for ozone therapy. They're designed for low-flow supplemental oxygen, and many don't maintain consistent purity under the flow rates you need. Stick with a standard home unit.

My Take

From my point of view, concentrators are the most practical option for most people doing ozone therapy at home. Tanks work fine, but they need to be refilled, they take up space, and depending on where you live, getting them refilled can be a hassle. A concentrator just sits there and makes oxygen whenever you need it.

The key thing is to get the pediatric flow regulator. I can't stress this enough. I've seen people buy concentrators, connect them directly to their ozone generators, and then complain that the generator isn't working right. The problem isn't the generator, it's the flow rate.

One real-world example worth mentioning: Dr. Bridges used a concentrator with Dr. Robert Rowen to produce ozonated glycerin. That's a legitimate, well-known practitioner using a concentrator for a specific ozone application. It's not theoretical, it works.

  1. Oxygen concentrator, 93-97% purity, 1-2 L/min output, home unit (not portable)

  2. Pediatric flow regulator, to dial down to 1/32–1/4 L/min

  3. Ozone generator, compatible with your flow rate

  4. Silicone tubing, to connect everything

  5. Your specific therapy equipment, depends on what you're doing (catheters for rectal, bag for limb bagging, etc.)

That's it. Five items, and the concentrator replaces the oxygen tank entirely for non-IV therapies.
